Administrative / Biographical history

Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_Gillies

Maxwell Irvine Gillies was born in 1941 in Melbourne. A noted comedic actor, political impersonator and producer he began his theatrical career at Monash University. In 1970 Gillies and other emerging Australian writers and actors formed the experimental theatre repertory ensemble The Australian Performing group, performing only new Australian plays for Australian audiences for several years. Whilst appearing in films such as Stork (Tim Burstall, Australia,1971) and The Cars That Ate Paris (Peter Weir, Australia,1974), Gillies gained national attention for his satirical parodies of political figures on television and in solo theatre performances, most notably in the television series The Gillies Report (1984), The Gillies Republic (1986) and Gillies Nation (1992). For his continuing contributions as a playwright, actor, producer, Australian Film Institute board member and University of Melbourne Vice-Chancellor's Fellow, Gillies has been awarded the Order of Australia, a Distinguished Alumni Award and an honorary Doctor of Laws Degree from Monash University.
