Collection Description
Ted Smout was one of Australia’s last surviving WW1 veterans. A stretcher-bearer during some of the most horrific battles on the Western Front, Ted’s story also details his remarkable success at self-rehabilitation after the war and his thoughts on the changes in Australia over the many years of his life.
This interview contains two parts filmed several years apart. The first interview shown was filmed for the Australians at War Archive in 2002-2004, while the second interview shown was filmed for the television series Australians at War in 1999-2000.
