Howard Library Collections

Summary: Search the Howard Library Collections to discover a nationally significant record of Australia's recent political history seen from multiple sides of the political divide. Together the archives of Howard and his cabinet ministers record the major political debates of the Howard Government era, including material relating to the Nationals, Australian Labor Party and the Greens...

The Howard Library consists of significant archives and artefacts associated with the long parlimentary career of former Prime Minister John Howard, and his fellow parliamentarians.

The material includes more than 10,000 items of personal papers and official records covering the period from 1974 to 2007, from Howard’s entry to parliament and his various government portfolios, through to his rise to Treasurer, Leader of the Opposition and Prime Minister.

Howard’s own papers are complemented by the personal archives of his ministers and political associates, such as Philip Ruddock, Tim Fischer, and Peter Reith, and related collections of political ephemera and objects.

Together these form a rich record of late 20th century and early 21st century Australian history for researchers.
