The papers of Grant Caldwell include correspondence, manuscripts, galley proofs, notebooks, diaries, cassette tapes and posters.

Administrative / Biographical history

Grant C. Caldwell was born on the 6 March 1947 in Melbourne, Victoria. He began writing poetry while teaching economics in secondary schools in country Victoria. He has travelled, lived and worked in London, Morocco and Spain.

He returned to Australia in 1977, moved to Sydney and worked for a time on a small literary magazine, SCOPP and began writing full-time. In the late seventies and eighties he was part of the Performance Poetry movement, and read and performed his poetry at many venues in Sydney and Melbourne. He has received two Australia Council Fellowships (1992 and 1994) and two Vicarts grants. His poetry and short stories have been widely published and read on radio and television.

The collection was acquired from Grant Caldwell from 1989 to 1992.

Scope and Content

The papers of Grant Caldwell include correspondence, manuscripts, galley proofs for Malabata (1991) and The revolt of the coats (1988). Also included are notebooks, diaries, cassette tapes and posters.
