Manuscripts
MSS 002 – Papers of Christopher ClarkChristopher Clark (formerly writing as Chris Coulthard-Clark) graduated from the Royal Military College, Duntroon in 1972, and gained his PhD from the Australian Defence Force Academy, Canberra in 1991. Clark was Historian for Post-1945 Conflicts at the Australian War Memorial and Chief of the Air Staff Historian 1987-1991 and has published widely on Australian military history. The collection contains drafts and copies of original sources relating to Clark’s Australia's military map-makers : the Royal Australian Survey Corps 1915-96 (2000), covering aspects of the Royal Australian Engineers.

MSS 126 – Doug Robertson Maritime & Naval History Collection
A comprehensive collection of notebooks, research notes, newspaper clippings and plans – together with an extended sequence of 70,000 photographs and slides - compiled and collected by Australian ship expert and naval historian, Doug Robertson (1923-1984). The material documents naval history from the 17th -20th centuries, with an emphasis on merchant and naval ships in the period 1860-1974. Includes sail, steam, diesel and nuclear-powered ships of many types, such as tugs, lash vessels, cargo ships, tankers, ferries, lighthouse tenders, liners, destroyers, anti-submarine vessels, mine-sweepers, clippers, schooners, ketches and barques, amongst others.

MSS 142 – Papers of Dirk ter Haar
Born in the Netherlands in 1919, Dirk ter Haar attained his doctorate on the origins of the solar system from the University of Leiden (1948). A specialist in statistical physics and quantam mechanics, Haar was for many years Reader in Theoretical Physics at Magdalen College, Oxford, where Anthony Leggett (Nobel laureate in Physics, 2003) and Deng Jiaxian (Chinese nuclear physicist) listed among his notable students. Haar was an energetic linguist, translating several seminal works into English, his knowledge of Russian providing him with access to Soviet scientific advances (including the work of Landau and Kapitsa) ahead of his colleagues in the West.
Highlights of Haar’s papers include his early notebooks, manuscript drafts and lecture notes.
MSS 183 – Papers of Lieutenant-General Sir Vernon Ashton Hobart Sturdee
Lieutenant-General Sir Vernon Ashton Hobart Sturdee, KBE, CB, CBE, DSO, was born on the 16 April 1890 in Frankston, Victoria, son of Alfred Hobart Sturdee who commanded the 2nd Field Ambulance, Australian Imperial Force, at Gallipoli. Sturdee the younger was commissioned in 1908, and in February 1911 appointed probationary lieutenant, Royal Australian Engineers, Permanent Military Forces. On 25 April 1915 and landed at Gallipoli as adjutant, 1st Divisional Engineers, and from September as a major, commanded the 5th Field Company, 2nd Divisional Engineers and the engineering and mining work at Steele's, Quinn's and Courtney's posts.

MSS 284 – Papers of Histories of Commissioned Ships in the Royal Australian Navy
Photocopy and carbon typescript drafts relating to Commissioned Ships serving in the Royal Australian Navy. The collection provides technical ship data together with a brief service history of between one to seventeen pages for each vessel from launching to disposal from 1866 to 1983. This information was collected for The Australasian Military History Database (MIHILIST), produced by UNSW Canberra at the Australian Defence Force Academy, Canberra.

MSS 335 – Papers of Major D.C.L. Wilson
Correspondence, diaries, newspaper articles, other publications and personal documents and effects pertaining to Major D.C.L. Wilson's education at the Royal Military College, Duntroon, training at the Land Headquarters Tactical School and World War II service, particularly in the Pacific. Also includes original documents relating to military training, orders, signals and maps, ciphered messages and classified ‘secret’ papers, together with a pamphlet and folder relating to military engineering.

MSS 337 – Papers of J. Letts
Field service pocketbooks, memoranda, and volumes relating to the Home Guard (Australian Volunteer Defence Corps) in the Second World War collected by J.A. Letts, including small arms training pamphlets.
