Barry Cohen was an Australian Labor politician, serving as Federal Minister for Robertson (1969 - 1990). Under the Hawke Government, he served as Minister for Home Affairs and the Environment (1983 - 1984) and Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Environment (1984 - 1987). Following his retirement from federal politics in 1990, he wrote a number of newspaper articles for The Bulletin and The Australian. He published a several books, including Life with Gough (1996) and From Whitlam to Winston (1997).
He was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 2007.

Scope and Content
A collection of the literary papers of Barry Cohen, created principally during the 1990s but including some material from the late 1980s. Some material relates to Cohen's newspaper articles which he largely published following his retirement from politics in 1990. The collection also includes draft material from the books published as Life with Gough (1996) and Whitlam to Winston (1997).
