Oriel Gray was an Australian playwright and screenwriter. Her work focused on social issues, notably feminist issues and class conflict. Her 1955 play The Torrents was co-winner of the 1955 Playwrights' Advisory Board Competition with Ray Lawler's Summer of the Seventeenth Doll. Her other well-known works include Lawson (1943) and Burst of Summer (1959).
Gray also wrote scripts for television, including 'We Should Have Had a Uniform' (1975) for Quality of Mercy. She was also on the writing staff for the soap opera Bellbird (aired 1967 - 1977).
She published her memoirs Exit left: memoirs of a scarlet woman in 1985 and later published one novel, The Animal Shop (1990).
