Australian author and poet Steven Herrick was born in Brisbane in 1958. After leaving school in year ten and working for a number of years, he completed high school as an adult and obtained a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Queensland. He began publishing as a poet in the 1980s, and published four collections of poetry in that decade. In the 1990s he pioneered verse-novels for children and young adults and has also written children's and young adult fiction in prose. He has performed his poetry in schools and at festivals in Australia and overseas
