Eric Rolls was born to a farming family in Grenfell, New South Wales in 1923. After attending Fort Street High School, he served with the Australian Imperial Force as a signaller in Papua New Guinea and Bougainville. From 1948 until 1986 he farmed in north-west New South Wales as well as writing, often spending time researching at the Mitchell Library in Sydney. As a writer for children and adults, he wrote poetry and prose works on a variety of topics including Australia's natural history, food and China's relationship with Australia

This material was acquired from Eric Rolls in two consignments in 1989

This collection relates to Eric Rolls and his work as an author and poet, including correspondence, notes, news clippings, drafts, typescripts, magazines and cassettes. Works include 'The green mosaic', 'A million wild acres', 'Celebration of the senses', 'Doorways' and Rolls' history of the Chinese in Australia
